Years 5 and 6
Our Upper Key Stage 2 consists of 3 classes. The year 6 classes are taught by one of our Deputy Headteachers and leader of Key stage 2, Mr Pope and Mr Gibbons, who takes the class for their topic based learning (Oak) and the other class is taught by Mr Hurley (Birch). The Year 5 class (Pine) is taught by Miss Martin.
Weekly Homework is issued at the start of term and will consist of spellings, timestables and a maths activity from MY Maths (an online programme). The children will be tested on their spellings every Friday morning.
We will also set a topic homework at the start of every half term linked to the learning that is taking place in class. The children will be given the half term to complete this piece of work. This will include a writing task.
In addition to the weekly homework, we ask that you hear your children read (daily if possible) and remind them to complete their reading diary. This reading will require the children to choose a book, that is appropriate to their reading age and ability, from their Accelerated Reader level. We ask the children to exchange their books at least once every 3 weeks so they can take their AR quiz (for younger children or shorter books we expect this more frequently) and earn points and prizes.
